“three birch” watercolor

by David on September 10, 2009

DSC00152This painting is a watercolor I did a while ago. “Three Birch” measures 20″x20″ (approx. 50cm x 50cm). It is a painting of three old birch trees out at a friend’s house in the country. One night the moon was shining brightly through the branches. I captured a photo on my cell-phone and painted it soon after. I love trees and have a special attachment to them. It is not rational. I’m sad because we were just out there a couple of weeks ago and one of the trees has died and will need to be cut down. It is not too much of a surprise because he, a forester, says birch are basically “weed trees”. Their life span is shorter than other trees. But they are beautiful and are often the subject of my paintings.
